The Market Group, formerly the Biz Group, is a group of local adults with Down syndrome. The group faced unsurmountable barriers to obtaining any kind of volunteer work and/or employment.
Opportunities within the local community are diminutive with the statistics suggesting that one in 20 businesses will not even look at hiring anyone with a disability. These opportunities are rare and difficult to obtain. Therefore, the original group started their own business called the Biz Group with support of the Down Syndrome Association of Peterborough.

While the membership of the group has changed over the years as has the focus. We are excited with the “renewed” program which allows participants to have a valuable and educational experience while having fun. The morning focus is working on the projects of choice and the afternoon focus is life skills and social skills.
All proceeds from the sale of items created by the Market Group, go right back into the group towards a lunch program (participants plan, shop, and make their lunch) as well as, a once a month large group outing which can include bowling, movies, a lunch out at a restaurant, mini-golf, etc.
Products
This group get together weekly to create hand painted “Love Mugs” The idea behind it is to share the LOVE one mug at a time. These make great gifts as well!
The group has also began making some hand painted custom mugs for businesses and for tournaments. If you are interested please contact us to explore options.
The cost of the mugs are $10.00, they are also dishwasher safe! The options currently are black or white mugs. We have a variety of styles including: “Love”, “The Biz Group”, “The Market Group”, Harry Potter themed, Butterflies, New mom’s, playgrounds, and even “The Price is Right” themed mugs.
We also have several hand painted “Love Totes” these totes (Navy Blue or Red) are available for $10.00. These are limited and designs include: Harry Potter, playground, hearts, and butterflies.
The group has been working hard on learning about food handling and safety to bring you some exciting new products. The first to be released…HOT CHOCOLATE LOVE MUGS. These are limited in supply however, bulk orders can be arranged for store hours in advance. These kits cost $14.00 each and APPLE CIDER LOVE MUGS $12.00 each. ALL NATURAL, LOCAL, WILDFLOWER HONEY $10.00 each. NEW COOKIE JAR KITS cost $18.00 each.
